Abbeycroft Leisure is an award-winning charitable leisure trust, managing sports and leisure facilities throughout Suffolk, across nineteen sites, with approximately fifty managers and five-hundred employees and volunteers. They provide a range of sports services including gyms, exercise classes, and swimming lessons as well as opportunities for members of the community to engage in team sports such as football. Their services are used by 1.6 million visitors each year.

Abbeycroft Leisure implemented WorkInConfidence’s SpeakInConfidence anonymous communications platform into their HR processes in September 2018.

Rachel Nouch is HR manager for Abbeycroft Leisure and has the mammoth task of providing support for their 500+ employees. She explained why they chose SpeakInConfidence:

“Before SpeakInConfidence, our grass-roots staff didn’t have an effective mechanism to communicate with HR. They wanted to highlight concerns or raise issues, but we didn’t have effective processes to facilitate that feedback channel. We felt that an anonymous dialogue system would be the best port of call because it encourages staff to come to us with absolutely anything, without fear of recourse or repercussion.”

Nouch explained that they have an existing staff app that they use for posting notifications, but it’s a one-way system with limited functionality. SpeakInConfidence offers Abbeycroft Leisure more scope for interaction and expansion.

Nouch sees real potential in the PulseInConfidence Survey facility which they’ll be using to glean employee feedback on a variety of topics, including a gauge on general morale, as well as gaining an understanding of training and interpersonal issues.

“We like the idea of conducting surveys. We thought that that was quite valuable to us, when we decide to engage in an external employee survey provider it can be costly to the organisation with limited value. We’re a charity, and we have to look at our income streams. But we want to engage with our workforce, so snap-poll surveys are much more useful for us.”

Nouch expressed that the staff who have used the system have found it accessible, convenient, and simple to interact with and operate. They felt reassured by the anonymity, and the management team liked the idea that they could drill down into issues before they become problematic.
